More Paul Vanstone Heads

I admire how carefully Vanstone selects that marbles he uses for his heads -- the materiality of the marble takes on huge significance to the heads, their striation becoming part of the personality of the piece.

And I cannot look at these without thinking of the scene in Jules et Jim where they are shown a slide of a sculpture so enticing that they travel to see it at once (the scene begins about 7 minutes in):

When they meet Jeanne Moreau, they see her as the stone come to life. I wonder if I'll meet any of Vanstone's heads on the street?

I love these! They have a sort of "Olmec head" quality! :D
