Painting Portrait Oil Canvas Italian Genre Scene Man Grand Tour Signed Framed 1880s 1890s

On offer late 19th century Italian genre scene depicting jovial peasant man reading an illustrated newspaper while drinking wine. Most likely collected during Grand Tour of Italy c. 1880s - 1890s. Rich in regional detail through his dress and style of wine bottle, he emerges from a darkened background and engages with the viewer directly. Highly animated character portrait. Signed lower left, black signature on a black ground. Presented in original white gold/platinum leaf frame.

SIZE:

CONDITION: Overall very good. Could stand a cleaning and there is one small, minimal fissure as shown. Frame exhibits wear commensurate with age as shown.
