Statuette Guanyin Famille Bleu Chinese Polychrome Buddhist Bodhisattva Porcelain c. 1900 on Lotus Stand Skinner Auctions Tag

Guanyin or Guan Yin is an East Asian bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. She is commonly known as the "Goddess of Mercy" in English. The Chinese name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "The One Who Perceives the Sounds of the World". She is also referred to as Guanyin Bodhisattva.

Some Buddhists believe that when one of their adherents departs from this world, they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of a lotus, and then sent to the western pure land of Sukhāvatī. Guanyin is often referred to as the "most widely beloved Buddhist Divinity" with miraculous powers to assist all those who pray to her, as is said in the Lotus Sutra and Karandavyuha Sutra.

SIZE: 7" T without stand, 9" on stand

CONDITION: Presents beautifully, but break and piece missing from the folds of her garment as shown in photos. When on lotus stand this is hard to see. Stand was likely made for another statuette, but they have been together for a long time. I have not reglued the separated section of the statuette in order to allow the buyer to decide how to proceed with restoration -- which is entirely optional. It looks spectacular as is.
